The Economic Thought Research Of Xue Fucheng

Xue Fucheng was a famous thinker and diplomat of China in modern times. In histhought, the economic thought holds the prominent status. At the same time, his economicthought was also numerous and disorderly. It was thorough along with his special experienceand the understanding and developed unceasingly. This paper discusses his economic thoughtof vitalizing commerce and developing capitalist industry and commerce to resist foreignaggression and make China strong. Such thought had distinct style of the times, and it was anactive reaction to the domestic troubles and foreign invasion. Through analyzing the originand the content of the thought, the writer of this paper tried to explore the characteristics ofXue's economic thought and its historical place. The paper is divided into four parts:The main ides of the second part is: by criticizing the traditional concepts of stressingagriculture and curbing commerce, valuing justice and despising profits, Xue activelywhipped up public opinion and sought theoretical basis for establishing modern industry andcommerce in China. Here Xue emphasized the urgency and necessity of vitalizing commerceand developing capitalist industry and commerce.Part Three discusses Xue's economic system which revolved the foreign trade .This isthe key point of this paper. The economic system included three parts:1."Promoting the benefit of traffic"——to develop modern transportation.2."Promoting the benefit of technical farming"——to develop commodity agriculture.3."Promoting the benefit of manufacturing"—— to develop the substitute industry forimporting.He expected to regain economic rights. And stop up the loophole through comprehensivedevelopment of national economy so as to realize the aim of resisting foreign aggression andmaking China strong.Part Four discusses Xue's thought of paying great attention to scienceand technology, and talented persons. The position that studied the west science andtechnology, proposed the change takes only then the way, took the scientists and technicians,encouraged education to foster talent, to send foreign student's suggestion, in all had thepositive sense at that time.
