As a large transboundary diversion engineering, Dong-Shen Water Supply System provides Hong Kong, Shen Zhen as well as Dong Guan water for drinking and irrigating. It is important for Dong-Shen Water Supply engineering to adopt economic optimal operation scheme, to run systematically and scientifically, and to reduce and economize cost. After an overall reformation, Supply engineering has been equipped with advanced equipments and facilities, and high degree of automation, so, it is timing and necessary to conduct this research in the operation of the engineering.Based on the analysis of Dong-Shen Water Supply Engineering, its optimal operation constraint conditions are depicted in detail. Under the favorable policy of peak-valley time-sharing electricity price discrepancy between peak stage and valley stage, the optimal operation scheme should tightly focus on this price discrepancy. With this in mind, the principles for optimal scheme are promoted first. Then we program a more optimal operation scheme with reallocating water resources reasonably, based on the analysis and comparison between different schemes, and a more reasonable classification of electricity period. The scheme has the lowest dynamic operation cost under available water resources according to system's equipment, facility and operate environment. In order to verify the possibility of the scheme, hydraulic computations are conducted. With the hydraulic computations each stair water surface profile of water supply engineering, the dynamic storage of each stair are calculated, and the reallocation time is deduced accurately for each step canal's upper and lower pump station for adding or reducing discharge. Furthermore, experiments in situ are conducted to validate the hydraulic computation, the experimental results agree well with the hydraulic computations. So, the key problem is solved for safely and smoothly in carrying out the economic scheduling scheme. At last, through two in situ experiments under typical extreme conditions (maximum and minimum discharge), a scientific and practical peak-valley electricity optimal economic scheduling scheme is programmed for Dong-Shen Water Supply Engineering.More benefits are obtained with the application of this economic optimal scheme in the operation of Supply engineering. In practice, with the continuous summarization and fully validation, a peak-valley electricity optimal scheduling scheme will be achieved for the system.
