Although China's reform in urban land institutions has made great achievements, there have emerged many problems that should by no means be neglected. Therefore, to deepen the study on the change process of urban land institutions by summarizing and reflecting upon the past experience is of theoretical and realistic significance for the establishment and perfection of the urban land market and fastening the urban economic development.The dissertation attempts to point out the causes, the characteristics and the influence of the change process in urban land institutions through a case study of Shanghai. The dissertation has 6 chapters.The first chapter is a preface of the dissertation. It reviews correlation studies on the urban land institutions and then raises the research subject of the dissertation.In the second chapter, the dissertation probes into the new economic sociology theories and the institutional change theories, thus forming the basis for the theoretical analysis of the dissertation. Then, the dissertation raises three research suppositions: The emergence and the development of China's urban land institution embedded in the social structure and its change process influenced by many social factors; the change process of China's urban land institutions is leaded by different levels of governments; as economic organizations, the governments are also seeking profits in the change process of urban land institutions.The third chapter and the fourth chapter is the detailed study on the Shanghai's urban land institutions. Based on the new economic sociology theories and the institutional change theories, the dissertation reviews the change process of Shanghai's land institutions within the socialist plan economic institution and the socialist market economic institution. By case analysis, it points out the causes and the characteristics of urban land institution development. Lastly, the dissertation analyzes the influence and the disadvantages of Shanghai's current urban land institutions.
