Research On Timber Trade And Forestry Economic Cooperation Between China And Russia

For the rapid growth of economy, China's demand of forest increases year-by-year. With the implement of "natural forest conservation project", the supply of forest in China is far below its demand. Importing foreign woods can only bridge the gap between supply and demand. Russia borders on China, has convenient and prompt transportation and abundant forest. Importing timber from Russia has been the best choice. In 2005, Russia becomes the largest country of China's timer suppliers. By the analysis of data of importing timber from Russia, this thesis concludes that the mainkinds of imported timber are conifer, the importing pattern is frontier trade and the woods are transported through railway customs. Furthermore, the thesis analyses the circulation of imported Russian timber, divides it into three kind of market and explains detailed the characteristic of the markets and the utilization of Russian timber. The thesis uses the international trade theory to explain the arising of timber trade between China and Russia and discusses the reasons and influential factors to the timber trade between China and Russia.Russian government prepared to develop forest industry and limit the export of logs. Meanwhile, the public opinions contribute the illegal timber trade to China's largely importing Russian timber. For these reasons, depending on timber import will make China go into a dangerous situation. China needs develop full-scaled forestry economic cooperation with Russia. The thesis gives the definition, discusses the basis, advances the cooperation mode and brings forward the suggestions to the problem of China-Russia forestry economic cooperation.
