1. American has the most developed traffic and the longest highway mileage in the whole world. Highway mileage in America has been up to 88,700 km more than one-third of the world total. Expressways in America mainly consist of interstate and defense highway. This highway system plans from the late 1930s and is constructed large-scale in 1950s, finally generally completed in 1980s. It lasts more than half of a century.America expressway is a major research target in this paper. The development, basic features and management system of the expressway are comprehensively introduced and analyzed in this paper. To summarize these experiences provides a lot of reference experience for our country.The development track of American expressway has shown: the demand is great in countries where the area is large and the population density is high; the development scale of expressway is increasing with the improvement of economic development level; it is undoubtedly that the peak will appear when the road network develops to a certain stage; its total scale gradually stabilizes when the scale of expressway reaches a certain level, that is to say that the impact of further improvement of economic development level on the expressway development is weaker, in other words it becomes"not sensitive".
