The Gas Pipelines information is one of the important infrastructures of urban. With the development of urbanization, the network of gas pipeline is extending rapidly. The efficiency of rescue, maintenance, even the safety of urban resident’s life and property are directly related to the currency of gas pipeline information. Updating and maintenance the currency of the existing gas network data has become an important issue for the construction of the smart city. The incremental updating mode is flexible and easy to ensure the currency of gas pipeline network information, so it has become the preferred way to update gas pipeline data. ArcGIS is the most preferred platform of current commercial GIS systems. It is chosen to realize the incremental updating method of gas pipeline data. The main work and contribution are listed:1) The structural characteristics of gas pipeline data is summed up and analyzed in this thesis. The data structure for both current database and historical database of gas pipeline is designed using the ArcSDE and oracle database.2) After summing up and analyzing the types of the spatial entities’ change, the gas pipeline data changed types is analyzed in this thesis. Some corresponding manipulation methods and topology updating integrity maintenance also are developed. A transactional processing strategy is used to ensure the data integrity and consistency during the updating effectively.3) A gas pipeline incremental updating prototype system is implemented using C#programming language, ArcSDE spatial database engine and Oracle database. The main functions of this system include reading the change-only information file, incremental updating of gas pipeline data and its topological relations computation, archiving historical data, and logging etc. The system has been used in the Hainan Mingsheng Piping Gas Co.,Ltd currently. This study represents a timely and efficient application mode of incremental updating and historical data query of gas Pipeline data.
