Fluorine, which exists widely in nature, is known as the most active non-metallicelement. The main sources of environmental pollution of fluoride are from wastes, which areproduced in coal burning and other industrial process, such as steel, aluminum smelting, fertilizer, glass, fluorine industry and so on. The anomalies of fluoride are mainly in volcanicareas, fluoride deposit area and drought, semi-arid deserts and grassland. In addition, a largeamount of evaporation is another main source of fluoride, because the content of fluoride is0.4~0.9mg/L in the seawater. Fluoride, which is with appropriate amount, brings benefits tothe body with a wide range of physiological functions and metabolic processes. However, excessive intake of fluoride will cause serious harm to the body. Fluorine is a cumulativepoison, because the harm caused by fluoride to the human should not be perceived in a shorttime. The harm to the body is20times than that created by SO2. So the study of fluoride isparticularly significant. The study was conducted to monitor the concentrations of fluoridewithin a year in downtown area of Baoding city and then analysis the distribution. Thepurposes of this study are to make good acknowledge of the fluoride pollution, and lay thefoundation for environmental studies and air pollution control. In this study, according to the environmental pollution of the Baoding City, the area wasdivided into six points for sample collection and the fluor reagent spec-trophotometry wasadopted to monitoring and analyzing the collected samples. Six typical sampling points arethe Hebei University, the Passenger Transportation Center, the west in railway line in theNorth Third-ring Road, the city power plant, the China University of Geoscience Great WallCollege and the Department Store. The study results show: The average concentrations of the four seasons were22.4,23.4,20.8,19.6μg/m3. The distribution of the fluoride concentrations in ambient air in time was: thesummer> the spring> the autumn> the winter, ie. the average concentrations in summer weremaximum and average concentrations in winter were least. The average concentrations in thesix points during the year were respectively18.4,21.9,21.3,24.4,22.0,21.5μg/m3. Thedistribution of the fluoride concentrations in ambient air in space was: the city Power Plant>the China University of Geoscience Great Wall College Road> the Passenger TransportationCenter> the Department Store> the west in railway line in the North Third-ring Road> theHebei University. That is, the average concentrations in summer were maximum and average concentrations in winter were least. As the tendency daily, the fluoride concentration is low asearly as8o’clock. Until10to11o’clock, the fluoride concentration reaches a maximum. Thefluoride pollution in Baoding is mainly affected by the source of life, traffic and long-distancetransmission of industries.
