The performance of acrylate ester emulsion is excellent, which can be used asvarieties of functional coatings and in a wide range of applications. The object of thispaper is based on the preparation of core-shell acrylic copolymer emulsion, by Zn2+modified acrylate to prepare core-shell acrylic ionomer emulsion, and then, inorganicporous multi-layer materials as pigments and fillers, were applied to the wall coatingswith humidity controlling functions. On the other hand, we studied the morphology oflatex particles with different conditions, which showed that the latex particlesperformed different structure and properties. This paper is divided following parts:Firstly,this paper included two aspects: the one reviewed the methods andapplications of modified acrylate at home and abroad. On the other hand, this paperreviewed synthesis methods and applications of latex particles with different structure.Secondly, based on parameters of exploration such as preparation of polystyrene(PS) core particles, different ratio of core/shell, the content of Zn2+, we used theacrylate to prepare core-shell acrylic ionomer emulsion (PSA-Zn). At the same time,the structure and chemical components of the core-shell acrylic ionomer emulsionwere investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), FT-IR spectra, andthermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. The basic properties of the PSA-Znemulsion and film were also measured, which demonstrated that they reached toChinese standard about interior wall coating (GB/T20623-2006).Thirdly, the humidity controlling coating was prepared by the PSA-Zn which hasfunctional film-forming properties pigments and fillers, such as bentonite, diatomiteand other clays. And the basic performances of the coating were measured, theexperimental results demonstrated that they reached to Chinese standard about interiorwall coating (GB/T9756-2009). Moreover, the obtained coating was characterized bySEM and the humidity mechanism was suggested.Finally, we found that morphology controllable compound latex particles couldbe prepared by controlling the multistage emulsion polymerization. In the process ofsynthesizing the core-shell latex particles with hydrophilic cores and hydrophobicshell, we investigated the morphology and hydrophilia of the latex particles. Theresults showed that the acorn-like latex particles were synthesized with hydrophobic polystyrene (PSt)-layer. With adding moderate polarity polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) interlayer, the hydrophilic cores could be fully encapsulated by thehydrophobic PSt-layer, and the core-shell structure formed. After alkali treatment, theacorn-like and core-shell latex particles evolved into amphiphilic Janus and hollowlatex particles, respectively.
