Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), with a repeat unit chain [–Si (CH3)2O–], is themost common member in the class of polysiloxanes. Because of the special chainstructure, PDMS has advantages of excellent temperature resistance, weatherresistance, hydrophobicity, lubricity and biocompatibility etc, and has been widelyused in areas such as coatings, adhensines, textile, and biomaterials etc. However, dueto its drawbacks of poor mechanical properties and high costs, researchers usuallyintroduce silica (SiO2) into the polymeric matrix to achieve the reinforcement ofPDMS elastomer, thus obtain the PDMS/SiO2composites.In this paper, the ultrasonical dispersion process was utilized to modify the silicasol nanoparticles with a certain amount of hydroxyl silicone oil (HSO) andγ-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH-560). Then in the presence of modifiedsilica sol, the miniemulsion polymerization of D4was conducted with DBSA as anemulsifier and catalyst, and the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)/SiO2nanocompositesemulsion latex was obtained. Modified silica sol particles were characterized by FTIRand TGA. The diameter and morphology of the composite latex particles wereanalyzed by Nano particle size Analyzer and TEM, respectively. Mechanicalproperties and thermal stability of the composite films were characterized by tensiletest and TGA. The results showed that the ultrasonical dispersion was aneffective way to modify the silica sol particles, the modified silica sol particles couldbe coated by polydimethylsiloxane and formed core-shell morphology of latexparticle during the miniemulsion polymerization, the introduction of SiO2improvedthe mechanical properties and the thermal stabilities of the polysiloxane/SiO2nanocomposite films.Finally,(PDMS)/SiO2nanocomposites latex paint was fabricated by adding somefillters and additives. Latex paint films were characterized by high-temperatureresistant and other performances, the results showed that the thermal stability of thelatex paint films was significantly improved which could bear550℃high temperaturefor a long time.
