Traditional Styrofoam mould’s process is based on the workers. They process itaccording to the drawing, splice the mould one by one. Finally making the mould as weneeded. Using this method to process the mould not only have a low efficiency, but alsoeasy to make mistakes, and needing a high technical requirement of the workers.Nowadays, it is transformed into entity process. As there is not the CNC carving andmilling machine which specially used to process the Styrofoam in the society, people haveno choice but to use the tradition milling machine which always used to process the steelto process it. Using this machine to process the Styrofoam, it will left the tool’s path afterprocessing, what’s more, it will influence the mould’s future process. So this paper aims todesign the special CNC carving and milling machine to process the Styrofoam.This paper determined the overall design of the machine by researching theprocessing objects carefully. Through the tradition calculation, designed the machine’smain transmission system. Using the CAE analysis, researched the machine’s key partsand whole machine’s dynamic characteristics. The research’s main details are asfollowing:(1) Analyzed the domestic and foreign universities’ recent researching about the machinetool, summarized the method of designing the machine, provided this paper’s mainresearch details.(2) Discussed the basic theory of the finite element about the machine, analysis the basicproblem about the dynamic analysis and the dynamic design, comparing somemeasures and methods in designing the machine tool.(3) Design and calculate the machine’s servo drive system. By checking the ball screwand motor, demonstrating the designed parts is reasonable.(4) Design and analysis the machine’s bed, column, stringer beam and floor beam.Through the modal analysis, obtained the bed’s first six natural frequencies andcorresponding vibration mode, and using the results to evaluate the bed.(5) Making the corresponding finite element analysis for the whole machine. Throughthe modal analysis, getting the whole machine’s natural frequencies andcorresponding vibration mode, providing reference for the machine’s improvementand harmonious response. Through the harmonious analysis, getting the machine’sdisplacement of the dynamic analysis and the response frequency which is easy to bestimulated. Then evaluate the machine’s overall performance.(6) The machine’s test analysis. Through the empty running test, get the machine’soverall performance. Through the test, get the speed range which the spindle should be avoided. Through the processing test, get the satisfactory processing parameters.Compared with the design requirement, verify the machine’s rationality.
