In this paper, the theory and methods of software engineering is applied to developing of weldingexpert system. Object-oriented knowledge representation method is used in this system and thiswelding expert system which is integrated with functions of welding process design, welding procedurequalification, welder management and qualification matching, welding consumables consumptionquota calculation is developed on the characteristics of aluminum alloy body welding for high speedtrains.First of all, the theory and methods of software engineering is applied to developing of this expertsystem. As a result, the development cycle model is established, development phase is divided andtasks of each stage are defined. Current mainstream software development technologies and platform isused to develop this expert system. So efficiency of system development and quality of system ishighly improved while the scalability and easy maintenance of the system is also enhanced.Secondly, object-oriented knowledge representation method is used in establishing of knowledgebase. This kind of knowledge presentation method more in line with the way human understands theobjective things. Besides, these characteristics which are encapsulation, inheritance and so on ofobject-orientated make it easier to maintain and extend for the knowledge base.Thirdly, a module of welding process designing is developed based on the rules and regulations ofthe standard GBT25343.3-2010. A pre-WPS is generated after joint designing and welding processparameter designing in this module. Then this pre-WPS will be qualified by the rules of standardEN15614-2, and results will be shown to users.Furthermore a module consists of welder natural information management function and welderqualification matching function is developed base on the rules and regulations of standard ENISO9606-2. This module is developed by the basis of regulations and rules of the standard, and itworks under the rules such as parent material categories, joint form and so on. Finally it fulfills thefunction of automatic selecting of welders. In addition, the module can also show welders validinformation in real-time response and give an early warning of it.Finally, a module of welding consumables consumption quota calculation is developed. Thismodule is based on variable parameter groove model and iterative calculation method to achieve thefunctions of calculation of complex groove and functions of quick estimating of welding consumablesof welding parts. The calculation results can provide valuable reference for enterprises in the preparation of raw materials, evaluation of production costs.
