Vanadium has been accepted to be an essential trace element in human body. Theinsulin-like effect of vanadium complexes and inorganic vanadate is the most significantfinding. The disadvantages of inorganic vanadate is toxicity, small fat-solubility, lowbioavailability and dose requirements, so vanadium complex becomes a new focus of thestudy. It has proven that the biologic activity of the complexes of vanadium is much betterthan the activity of vanadate role individually. We should select the appropriate ligands inorder to reduce the toxicity and improve the absorption and efficacy of the vanadium.In this paper, on the basis of reading a lot of literatures, we choose hydrazone to be theligands because acyl hydrazone has strong biological activity and a better ability of coordina-tion. It can constitute complexes that have good absorbent and stability with transition metalions. At the same time add other ligands such as functionality malt phenol, containing N, Oheteroatoms, in order to reduce the toxicity of vanadium, then, increase the diversity ofcomplex structures,enhance the permeability and absorbent.This paper is divided into two parts:1. Review on vanadium coordination compounds with well biological and medicineactivities. It introduces the uses of vanadium complexes in various fields systematically andpoints out that the types of ligands have a large influence on the properties of the complexes.This paper analyzes the structure and the progress of vanadium complexes, which haveinsulin-like effects. Therefore, it introduces the vanadium complexes of ligand configurationand the structure characteristic briefly.2. The synthesis and characteristic of vanadium coordination compounds. The Synthesisof13acyl hydrazone ligand and vanadium coordination, to add the ligand with a broad rangeof biological activity respectively, such as methyl maltol and ethyl maltol,8-hydroxyquinoline, oxygen oxime acid, acetyl salicylic acid hydroxyl oxime and benzene armourhydroxyl oxime acid, it will get20mononuclear vanadium complexes. It can be determinedits crystal structure by X-ray single crystal diffraction and analyzes its structure. Using theultraviolet spectrum, infrared spectrum analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and a series oftests on the new synthesis of vanadium complexes determines the basic composition andcoordination complexes.In this article, by choosing appropriate ligand coordination with vanadium gets a newcomplex that is high biological activity. What’s more, the law on the synthesis and self- assembly complexes were analyzed and summarized. It not only has a theoretical effect fordesigning a new type vanadium complex, but also promotes the coordination chemistry ofvanadium to develop.
