There are two functions in organic matters removed in landfill leachate treatment by biologicalactivated carbon(BAC): adsorption of activated carbon, and biodegradation of microorganisms. The presentstudy compared the COD removal efficiency of different reactors, then discussed the influence of activatedcarbon dosage, carbon porosity and inflow COD concentration in landfill leachate treating by BAC reactors;using carbon dioxide output as the medium to calculate the quantity of biodegradation, researched thebioregeneration in BAC reactors. Analyze the mechanism of BAC removing organic matters in landfillleachate. The conclusions of this study are as follows:Average COD removal efficiency of SBR was12.2%, while four BAC reactors were13.3%,16.3%,22.7%and15.5%, respectively. The organic matters removal efficiency in BAC reactor was better thanSBR. In BAC reactors, COD removal efficiency was positively related with activated carbon dose.Bioregeneration was the essential reason to make BAC reactor work efficiently and stably. Bioregenerationquantity of unit weight carbon was approximate; it was not related with carbon dosage. Leachate qualityhad a great impact of bioregeneration: better biodegradability lead to higher bioregeneration quantity.When organic matters entered into reactor, easily degradable matters were biodegraded bymicroorganisms, and some others were adsorbed on activated carbon, the left was outflow in DRAW period.A part of organic matters that accumulated on BAC could be degraded by microorganisms, which was thebioregeneration of activated carbon. Through the accumulation, BAC could biodegrade more organicmatters and some hardly biodegradable matters.When the organic loading of inflow was decreased, bioregeneration was stronger than adsorption,which made organic matters accumulated on BAC reduce with time. When the organic loading of inflowkept stability, accumulation quantity of organic matters on BAC could keep a dynamical balance, whichmade the BAC reactor work stably for a long while...
