Disc cutter is one of the largest amount of consumables in the tunnel construction of TBM, it is expensive and the time used for tool change is long, and it will reduce the efficiency or even cause damage to other components if not change it in time when it is damaged. So study disc cutter’s wear performance and grasp TBM’s work condition can improve excavation efficiency and reduce the cost of excavation. In this thesis, we choose TBM disc cutter as the research object, analyzing and studying the disc cutter wear form and wear mechanisms and building a wear calculation model. The main research contents of our work are listed as follows:(1) By analyzing the cutter’s working environment and the way to break the rock and regular pattern of its mutual movement with rock, we can get the main form of disc cutter’s wear is abrasive wear. By studying the property of disc cutter, we can get the main wear mechanism of cutter are micro cutting or furrow removal due to plastic removal and microscopic fracture mechanism due to toughness removal. By conducting wear test, and using the least squares method to establish the experimental wear volume and the wear volume caused by two mechanisms, and verified the correctness of the model.(2) On the foundation of analyzing the rock breaking arc length and force characteristics of the point in the front and side of disc cutter, the wear volume calculation formula is established after the disc cutter have one rotation. On the foundation of analyzing the sectional dimensions change of disc cutter’s cutter ring caused by hob wear to build the volume reduction model of hob that have one rotation, and to build the calculation model of hob’s wear volume that the TBM have tunneled a distance L. By using multifunction hard rock hob test bed to conduct the wear test, verified the accuracy of the calculation model.(3) Analyzing the influence of composition of the rock under different geological on the wear of hob to classify the work rock formations of TBM, by conducting heat treatment experiments on H13steel which is the common material used for make disc cutter’s cutter ring, analyzing hardness and toughness of the samples after heat treatment, use multifunction hard rock hob test bed to test its wear performance to different types of rocks, and obtain the results that the performance of the best matches hob to different types of rocks should have.
