This article is based on the mechanism and force of breaking rock for the disc cutter, through the study of a single disc cutter by the same location and the different installation methods on the cutter plate for finite element analysis. Grasping the disc cutter structure and composition by awareness on disc cutter; grasping the factors of breaking rock mechanism and effect by studying theoretical of breaking rock; grasping the force status of rock in the case of breaking rock by learning the prediction force formula of disc cutter to propose the type of establishment of disc cutter breaking rock model by ANSYS finite element analysis software.The traditional type of disc cutter installation in the TBM is upright installation. In order to improve the effect of breaking rocks, we put forward two types of disc cutter installation, they are forward installation and extraversion installation. It is a interesting attempt. To test and verify the advantages and disadvantages of the three types of installation by finite element analysis.This finite element simulation is divided to three parts, the first, establishment of breaking rock model by three types of installation, the second, uniform definition of parameters, boundary conditions and load, the third, selecting PREPOST to dynamic simulation and analysis to model. We get their characteristics of each installation, through analysis of the same time breaking rock simulation results without the same type of installation. In the extraversion installation case, we can clearly find that the deep rock is broken obviously, in the forward installation case, the range of broken rock reflect its advantage. Both the forward installation and extraversion installation, they are more advanced than the upright installation on the efficiency and energy of breaking rock.
