The graft modification of linen roving, dyeing properties of modified linen roving andlinen/wool dyeing with same color in one bath process were studied in detail in this paper.2,3-epoxy propyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (GTA) was determined as modifier tocarry out quaternary ammonium salt modified linen roving by literature review and thephysical and chemical analysis. The optimum modification of linen roving process wasdetermined by single factor test and orthogonal test: the bath ratio was1:20, modifier dosagewas30g/L; Sodium hydroxide dosage was33g/L; Flax roving was modified at30℃for20min.Characterize and analyze the product after the modification proved that the success ofthe grafted flax roving, in flax fiber internal, the amorphous region was increased, and manydens and peel loss streaks formed on the surface, dyeing properties of flax roving wereimproved. The study of dyeing mechanism on acid dyes dyeing modified linen rove shows thatdyeing of modified linen roving accord with the Langmuir(Langmuir) type adsorptionisotherm, dyeing rate of dye was faster. Combine with modified linen roving characterizationand dyeing mechanism, the optimum dyeing process was determined through orthogonal test:the bath ratio was1:30, dye dosage was7%(owf), initial dyeing temperature was40℃, heatup to60℃with1℃/min, dyeing time was80min, the dosage of sodium chloride and sodiumcarbonate were60g/L and20g/L.Combine modified linen roving and wool dyeing process, using piecewise warming andchange the dosage of sodium chloride and sodium carbonate, regulate the acid dyes’s dyeingpeed and quantity dyeing of modified linen roving and wool, the optimum process oflinen/wool dyeing with same color in one bath was determined by orthogonal experiments:bath ratio was1:30, dosage of dye was7%(owf), initial dyeing temperature was45℃,sodium chloride and sodium carbonate were added5g/L and10g/L respectively, heat up to65℃with1℃/min, dyeing time was40min, dosage of sodium chloride was5g/L, heat upto85℃with1℃/min, dyeing time was30min. Further research of modified linen roving and dyeing properties of wool show that themodified linen roving has less difference in color with wool, and both of them havehigh color fastness.
