With the modernization process of industry accelerating in China, storage andtransportation of oil and gas and its equipment play a more and more important rolein national economy. As the bridge of oil (gas) field, transfer devices and use terminalequipment, the status of branch pipeline became more significant in petrochemicalindustry, thus its safety management obtained more and more attention. Being anadvanced mode of pipeline management in recent years, Pipeline IntegrityManagement (PIM) has been widely applied in the domestic and international majorpipeline company. Through the implementation of PIM, the companies identify andevaluate the risk factors in the operation period for oil and gas pipelines, making thecorresponding risk control measures and constantly improving the conditions of theadverse factors, which can assure the pipelines to run within a reasonable andacceptable range of risk. Further, the above actions can reduce and prevent thepipeline accidents ultimately and ensure pipelines to run economically and safely.Based on systemic summary of the domestic and foreign pipeline integritymanagement, the paper studies on the technology, methods, patterns and strategies ofbranch pipeline integrity management according to the operation characteristics of thebranch pipeline. First, the paper comprehensively introduced the basic theory of PIMstarting with the related concepts, and detailed its domestic and foreign achievements;Secondly, the paper carried on the systemic analysis and selection on a large numberof global research achievements, and put forward suitable processes and methods forbranch pipeline integrity management. Then, according to the process and content ofbranch pipeline integrity management, the paper introduced the specific work to doand the methods to be adopted in every step. Finally, taking Xianning branch pipelinefor example, the detailed analysis has been made on the potential risk factors in thepipeline, and the corresponding preventive and corrective actions are put forward.The paper made risk identification of branch pipeline by the Fault Tree Analysis(FTA) to determine pipeline main failure forms and factors. The detail fault tree graphis drawn out based on their logical relationship. After the calculation of minimum cutsets of fault tree, the weak links in branch pipeline system are determined. Then, risk management theory is applied to build a risk analysis model of pipeline equipment toanalyze accident risks and consequences of pipeline accidents that may occur.Combined with risk analysis results and the characteristics of the branch pipeline task,the pertinent risk response measures are brought up to eliminate the equipment failureand ensure pipeline safety.
