Carbide rotary files, that have been widely used in the mold, automotive, watercraft,chemical industry, industrial engraving and other fitter job site, are the essential tool forfitter to improve work efficiency. The design of blade curve and the manufacturingprocess have important influence on the work performance of Carbide files and the surfacequality of machined parts. To meet the variety of processing site, rotary files are movingtowards the diverse and complex direction, which the traditional hand-made processcannot meet the demand of the changing manufacturing process. Thus, multi-axis CNCmachining should be further promoted in the rotary file manufacturing process. In order toovercome the manufacturing process deficiencies for rotary files, a path planning methodwith partition type rotary blade has been proposed in this paper. And on this basis, anonline automatic programming system for partition type rotary file is developed.To deal with the deficiencies, such as small chip space and poor cutting condition onthe top section of rotary files, a series of work have been done. First the reasonable choiceof rotary file blank and wheel tool was analyzed. Then the tooth bottom model, where thetooth blade curves was planned, was proposed, which can greatly increase chip space andimprove cutting condition of rotary files. In the same time, the algorithm can ensure sharpteeth, smooth blade and plump appearance.For commercial CAD/CAM software, the special structures of machine tools areenumerable for the post process. To work with the customized post processor for themulti-axis CNC machining, a kinematic chain model that is driven by actual machinestructure was calculated to meet the command. The new post processor can widelyenhance the flexibility of the process and user experience.Finally, based on the above study, the online automatic programming system forpartition type rotary files has been developed in SINUMERIK840D CNC systemplatform. For partition type rotary files, the system not only meets the needs of real-timeprocessing, but also improves the processing efficiency. Furthermore, the correctness ofthe tool path planning algorithm, and the reliability of the system can be verified throughthe actual grinding process experiments.
