The small log is normally cut by whole edge sawing method, live sawing method,trapezoid sawing method and triangle sawing method, and the harvest are panels with wholeedge or with rough edge, trapezoidal panel or triangular panel. The biggest problem is that theproduction efficiency and the outturn percentage are not high. So the research on some newsmall log sawing equipment and new technology will be of great significance to improve thepercentage of outturn, extend the application of small log, ease the contradiction betweensupply and demand of the timber in our country.A new process of the hexagonal prism glued timber with big cross section has been putforward: sawing neat edge on both sides of the small log is the first step, then cutting the otherfour sides to make a six-sided cylinder blank, after the process of finger joint, precisionmolding, the exact hexagonal prisms with same cross section dimension can be produced andthey can be glued together to establish a big one. This thesis focus on a new six-sided cylindersawing machine and it is a key equipment of the above mentioned process.In this paper, we designed and made a six-sided cylinder sawing machine used sawingsmall log, after neat edge cutting, the other four sides of the six-sided cylinder can be cut out bythis equipment based on using neat edge plane as the datum plane.The main contents of this paper are listed below:(1)Based on the fully understand of the technology and equipment both at home andabroad, combined with the field survey and investigation, the design of the six-sided cylindersawing machine and the overall layout were put forward, mainly including centring part,hold-down mechanism, sawing device, transmission parts and so on, the main workingprinciple was also discussed.(2)The process of the six-sided cylinder sawing was analyzed, and on this basis, theselection and calculation of the key components of this sawing machine and the motor power ofsawing and transmission parts were introduced to lay a foundation for3D modeling.(3)Inventor three-dimensional software was used to build3D models of each part andgeneral assembly of this six-sided cylinder sawing. After modeling, the interference module andgravity of body check module were put to use to check the condition of interference andposition of center-of-gravity to verify if the structure design and lay-out is reasonable.(4)By using Ansys software, as a key part of cutting mechanism, the cutter shaft wasanalyzed to verify if the design of the shaft meet the requirements of strength and stiffness.(5)Finally, the performance test of this six-sided cylinder sawing machine was carried out,mainly including unloaded performance test, loading performance test and product propertiesabout straightness and specification, to examine whether the design of this machine meet the expected requirements and the quality of products reach the expected goal.
