Ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) is widely used in industrial explosive areasbecause of its low production cost and simple manufacturing process. However, due tostrong moisture absorption of ammonium nitrate, the water resistance of ANFO is poor,which has restricted its application. Physical and chemical properties of porous prilledANFO (PP ANFO) was modified by adding cross linking additives LZ2838and surfaceactive additives LZ2839. Through the viscosity and interfacial tension experiment, effectsof LZ2838and LZ2839on interfacial tensions between diesel-ammonium nitrate (AN)phase and between water–diesel phase were investigated. Preparation technology andexplosive formulation have been optimized by simulating the environment of the actualblast hole and designing water-solubility experiment and storage experiment. Bycompatibility, storage, detonation velocity and brisance experiments, the influences ofadditives LZ2838and LZ2839on the thermal stability and explosive performance wereanalyzed.First, the diesel viscosity and interfacial tension were tested without and with additivesLZ2838and LZ2839. The experimental results showed that LZ2838could effectivelyincrease the diesel internal crosslinking degree, increase the viscosity of diesel, enhance theforce between diesel and ammonium nitrate and decrease hygroscopicity of PP ANFO.LZ2839can reduce the interfacial tension between diesel and water and the interfacialtension between diesel and ammonium nitrate. It slowed down the tendency to replace thediesel with water. Synergistic effect of LZ2838and LZ2839was beneficial to improve thewater resistance of PP ANFO explosive.Secondly, based on the preparation of PP ANFO, the preparation process of modifiedPP ANFO was optimized. Through―Simplex-lattice‖design method, the regressionequation between the content of modified ANFO and the best formulation was obtained.The results showed that the preparation process III could increase effectively the waterresistance of PP ANFO with LZ2838and LZ2839and the best formulation of modified PPANFO was AN:diesel:LZ2838:LZ2839=94:5:0.59:0.41.Finally, the compatibility, storage performance, brisance and detonation velocity ofmodified PP ANFO were tested. It is shown that initial decomposion temperature increases.Detonation velocity attains3003m s-1.Brisance value is larger than12mm. Storage time is longer than30days. The thermal stability and explosive properties of modified PP ANFOcould meet the requirements of production, transport and usage.
