Styrene acrylic emulsion and pure acrylic emulsion are two important kinds ofacrylate emulsions, they are simply prepared, excellent performance, widely used. But thepure acrylic emulsion cost higher because of methyl methacrylate, and water resistance, alkali resistance, hardness etc. are poor. Traditional styrene acrylic emulsion has highfilm-forming temperature, electrolyte stability is poor, the viscosity of the emulsion isdifficult to adjust. Small molecular emulsifier in the traditional acrylic emulsion affect thewater resistance, stain resistance, adhesion of the emulsion film. In this study, pure acrylicemulsion and styrene acrylic emulsion are compared in properties to prefer a better hardmonomer; and the new polymerizable emulsifier of DNS-1035and DNS-86are used, withthe pre-emulsified and semi-continuous adding method to prepare of well performedsoap-free emulsion. Then, in order to improve the handle feel of the fabric finished by thesoap free emulsion, the soap free emulsion is modified with vinyl silicone oil.In the experiment, soap free styrene acrylic emulsion and soap free pure acrylicemulsion are prepared. Butyl acrylate (BA) and iso-octyl (2-EHA) are used as softmonomers, acrylic acid (AA) is used as functional monomer, sodium persulfate is used asthe initiator; new cross-linking monomers of TM-200, CX-650, CM-2, T-31are chose toimprove the properties of soap free emulsion. Single factor experiment and orthogonalexperiment are used to analyze the influence of pre-emulsification time, dropping time, holding time, emulsifier type, amount and ratio, the amount of initiator and acrylic acid,soft/hard monomer ratio, cross-linking monomer type and amount on the properties ofemulsion. By comparing the performances of pure acrylic emulsion and styrene acrylicemulsion, styrene (St) is preferred as hard monomer to prepare soap free styrene acrylicemulsion. The optimum preparation process is determined: pre-emulsification time is30~60minutes, dropping time of pre-emulsified emulsion is90minutes, holding time is60minutes. The anionic and nonionic composite reactive emulsifiers ratio ofDNS-1035/DNS-86is2/1, the amount of emulsifier is0.8%, the amount of initiator is0.8%,the cross-linking monomer amount of T-31is1.9%; the amount of vinyl silicone oil is9%. In the experiment, the soap free emulsion performances of appearance, stability aretested. The structure, thermal property of soap free styrene acrylic emulsion are analyzedthrough the infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC),thermal gravimetric analyzer (TG), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and otherequipments.Test results show that, the appearance, stability of the soap free emulsion aregood; structure test and thermal analysis display that styrene, acrylic ester monomers andvinyl silicone oil are involved in the polymerization reaction, their compatibilities are good. The prepared free-soap styrene acrylic emulsion, vinyl silicone modified acrylic emulsionare used in pigment printing, anti-pilling, pigment dyeing. Rubbing fastness, washingfastness, whiteness, K/S value of finishing fabric are discussed to decide curingtemperature, curing time, amount of emulsion; the amount of vinyl silicone oil is decidedby the handle of the finishing fabric.Experimental results show that the prepared soap-free of the topic has a high solidcontent (40%-45%) and good stability. Soap free emulsion applied in pigment printing,anti-pilling, pigment dyeing, the application effect is good and can reach industrialrequirements. Vinyl silicone oil modified products can effectively improve the handle fellof the finishing fabric.
