In recent years, with the development of economy and improvement of livingstandards, the demands of people for clothing are also growing, on basis of wearabilitysuch as warmth, comfort and durability for daily wear and so on, gradually put forward tohigher requirements for emotion and personalization. Clothing is typical perceptualproduct, emotions are also expressed by external form such as style, color and fabric.Thereinto, color determines the “first impression” of the clothing to a certain extent, playsthe most direct role.Different colors bring different mental feelings, the colors of clothing are alwaysbased on personal aesthetic experiences of fashion designer, so there are differencesbetween consumers’emotional appeal. Therefore, how to combine dress color withcustomers’perceptual cognition to meet consume demands better has important researchvalue. This study is linked closely with the application of product semiotics in relevantareas.According to Saussure’s binary relation theory of semiotics, clothing is a sign system,thereinto, the color, style, fabric are signifier and the emotion which clothing representedare signified.This paper study on dress color, use the method of product semiotics andintend to build a clothing color database, associate the signifier of finery symbol withsignified, so as to achieve the combination of clothing color with consumers’perceptualcognition. The research mainly include following five parts:1. Reading vast amount of literature,learn current situation of finery symbolization’sresearch and application, strengthen the learning of relevant theoretical knowledge,and onthis basis clear the significance, methods and technical route of research.2. Selecting clothing sample pictures reasonably, to ensure the accuracy and authorityof clothing color database, besides, make it convenient for later data analysis andexperiments.3. Making semantic analysis on samples, obtain perceptual words from relevantliterature to build alternative semantic space, and conduct color semantic relevance test,provide semantic data for the clothing color database. 4. Conducting color analysis experiments on samples to obtain concept color scheme,including major color of clothing’s hue, similar PANTONE number, and proportion,provide color data for the clothing color database.5. Constructing the clothing color database based on product semiotics depends ondatabase technology.Through the above five aspects of research, finally construct the clothing colordatabase which based on product semiotics and meet consumers’ perceptual cognition, itplay a guiding role in practical works such as fashion color design, clothing editor andlayout of commodity and so on.
