With the continuous development of economy, the demand for diesel is increasing.However, sulfur compounds in diesel can decrease the stability of diesel, which not only leadsto the corrosion of engine, but also facilitates the emission of particulates, sulfur and nitrogenoxides. This results in serious environmental pollution and threats to human health. Some bigcities with a large population and rapid development, such as Peking and Shanghai, areseriously polluted. With the improvement of environmental requirements, in orderto improve air quality and environment, the government begins to implement the state IVstandard of diesel in advance before the2008Olympics. Diesel quality specifications in Chinawill gradually be improved from the state Ⅲ standard to the state Ⅳ standard in2014. Thestate Ⅳ standard of diesel will be fully implemented on January1in2015, which stipulatesthat sulfur content specification cannot be higher than50μg/g and cetane number not lessthan49. The state Ⅴ standard of diesel will be fully implemented on January1in2018,which stipulates that sulfur content specification cannot be more than10μg/g and cetanenumber not less than51. Facing the increasingly strict standard of sulfide content and theenhancement of environmental consciousness, it has been a hot issue for manyprofessionals focus on that how to reduce sulfur content in diesel and to further producediesel with super low amount of sulfur or without sulfur.The diesel produced by SINOPEC Hainan petrochemical Co. Ltd. with the averagesulfur content about672μg/g and average cetane number about47.9, which cannot meetthe demands of producing the stateⅤstandard of clean diesel. In order to response todiesel quality upgrading and to meet the market requirements, our company use thepartition feed flexibly hydrofining unit MHUG-Ⅱ technology exploited by ResearchInstitute of Petroleum Processing. During the overhaul in2013, the company changed thediesel oil hydrofining unit of200million tonnes per years to diesel oil hydro-upgradingof unit248million tonnes per years. The MHUG-Ⅱ technology sets two reaction areas,hydrofining reaction area and hydro-upgrading reaction area. The technology conductspartition feeding to different diesel oil raw materials with different compositions anddifferent cetane number. The diesel with low cetane number and high aromatics contententers into the hydro-upgrading reaction area. Then the effluent of the hydro-upgradingreaction area and the fresh straight-run diesel oil enters into the hydrofining reaction area, which can avoid the overcracking of the straight-run diesel oil compounds with highcetane number. The industrial operation indicates that the MHUG-Ⅱ technology and thecatalysts applied in the hydrogenation equipment in our company have a very highperformance. The equipments, technological parameters and technological processesconform to the design requirements and meet the requirements of producing the state Ⅳstandard clean diesel with less sulfur and high cetane number.
