Nowadays, polyacrylamide as a profile control and water shutoff agent is commonly used inoilfield, but due to the limitations of their own nature, when it was used in a reservoir with atemperature below55℃, the crosslinking properties of polyacrylamide is too poor to form gel. Sopolyacrylamide can not meet the conditions of profile control and water shut off agent. Researchhas found that starch graft polyacrylamide can overcome these limitations duo to its good gellingproperties at low temperatures, and can meet the conditions of profile control and water shut offagent. In this article, we have synthesized starch grafting acrylamide using corn starch andacrylamide as raw materials and ceric ammonium nitrate as initiator. Also the influences ofmonomer concentration, initiator concentration, reaction time, pasting temperature and thefeeding mode of monomers and initiators on the grafting efficiency, grafting rate, the conversionof monomer of starch graft polyacrylamide was studied. The optimum reaction conditions haveobtained using orthogonal experiment. It was found that the optimum reaction conditions of highgrafting ratio were as follows. Grafting time is5h, concentration of monomer is1.0mol/L,grafting temperature is60℃, the quality of initiator is0.05g. And the optimum reactionconditions of high grafting efficiency were as follows. Grafting temperature is60℃,concentration of monomer is0.7mol/L, grafting time is4h, the quality of initiator is0.15g. Theoptimum reaction conditions of high monomer conversion were as follows. Grafting time is5h,concentration of monomer is1.0mol/L, grafting temperature is60℃, the quality is initiator is0.05g. The FTIR showed that starch was successfully grafted with polyacrylamide.
