With the development of economic, the production and exports of automobile areincreasing continually. The environment problems brought by transportation begin todraw public attention. Traffic noise is one of such problems. Tire noise becomes mainsource of vehicle noise when vehicle velocity exceeds certain value.Much legislation have been made to limit tire noise. The EC No1222/2009stipulates that tires sold in EU should be labelled with fuel efficiency class, wet gripclass and external rolling noise class. Tires that could not meet the requirements will notbe labelled from Nov1th,2012. Tires that could not meet the requirements could nolonger be sold or imported from Nov1th,2016. That could be a big impact to domestictire industries. It is top urgent to design low noise tire to keep competitiveness inEuropean market.The generation and propagation mechanism of tire noise are complicated.Although many study and theories have been made to explain passenger car tire noise,truck tire noise is still lack of research. This dissertation designed indoor and outdoorC3tire noise experiment and made comparison of the experimental result to find themain noise sources of C3tires. By simplify the acoustic model of certain tires, noisesimulation is made with FEM. Pseudo excitation method is used to analysis noisesource when modal vibration is excited.With the mechanism of noise generation and propagation, acoustic optimizationschemes are proposed to truck tires. Comparative experiments are conducted to provethat tire noise performance is improved with the schemes.3domestic truck tires withpoor noise performance have passed the legislation.More works need to be done on C3tire noise problems to cope with newrequirements of tire noise reduction. Only in that way could domestic tire companykeep pace with the international standard.
