38Cr Mo Al steel is a kind of metal that widely used for manufacturing various types of marine and automobile engines, plastic machine parts, etc. It’s often machined by cutting. The performance of cutting tools will have an important influence on the processing quality,efficiency and cost, etc. At present, there are various commercial cutting tool types with various quantity and enterprises would spend more time and cost on selecting suited cutting tools, for the lack of specific optimized technology and evaluation method of the large number of cutting tool materials.38Cr Mo Al steel is used as research material in this paper. Aiming at the abrasion value,an important indicator of tool cutting processability, cutting tools’ screening method and the optimization of processing parameters we studied. The research work are as follows:The knowledge of tool’s wear detecting methods are understood and some kinds of convenient tool wear measuring devices are designed by computer vision. And according to the performance characteristics of these devices, the most reliable solution are determined finally. Tool wear images can easily be obtained, and the calibration value can be calculated after analyzing images by computer software.Under certain experimental conditions, turning tools with different materials and the same type are used to cut 38 Cr Mo Al steel. Based on the correlation between early abrasion speed and tool life, the turning tools with high durability are chosen.Aiming at optimizing cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed and cutting depth,the optimal turning tool selected is used in cutting experiment. Then the data are analyzed by multiple linear regression method, and applied to Taylor experience formula. Mathematical model is built and the correlation is certified.
