The XiangJiang watershed was located in the east and south of the HuNan province, andthe watershed heavey metal industry had a long history. For a long time, because of theunreasonable industry structure, extensive development mode and the obstacles of thesupervision and administration caused serious heavy metal pollution. ChenZhou City wasfamous for the heavy metal industry and the long history of beneficiation, and was the mainsource of the XiangJiang watershed heavy metal pollution. Various Non-ferrous metalsenterprise was nearly spread all over the city.The XiHe watershed of SuXian area ChenZhou city was abundant in minerals, and theMaNaoShan digging was the main source of the XiHe watershed. This paper takes theMaNaoShan digging as an example to research the heave metal pollution treatment measures.For the long time unauthorized mining, a large number of vegetations was destroyed causing aserious soil and water loss. Most of the milltailings site and waste-rock yard construction wasnot compliance with requirements. The downstream of the XiHe river was polluted,andcaused severe deposition of the channel. It had an important significant for the XiHewatershed even the XiangJiang watershed heavy metal comprehensive treatment, that toresearch the MaNaoShan digging heavy metal comprehensive treatment.According to the measured and selected data, the general situation ofMaNaoShan digging was studied. And then the current treatment situation andrequirement of the environmental protection agency was surveyed. Based on the monitor ofthe surface and ground water quality, soil and channel sediments, detailed heavy metalpollution of the digging was got, the environment problem caused by the heavy metalpollution was analyzed, and the feasible treatment measures was raised.The MaNaoShan digging area had17no-owners milltailings sites, and properly disposed204(104t) mill tailings and6.55(104m3) waste rocks. The milltailings of the3km XiHeuperstream river channel was properly disposed, the slope drainage system and theconcentrate drainage ditch of the digging area was completed. And ecological remediationwas finished in the mining damage zone of the digging area. The total emission reduction ofthe heavy metal, Pb, Cd and As were about50kg annually, after the whole project was constructed.The implement of the MaNaShao digging heavy metal comprehensive treatment projectcould improve the digging and the surroundings area environment obviously, and safeguardthe people health, reflected the safe, resources and environment combined guiding ideology,has an outstanding environment and social benefit. The main environment benefits wereconsisted of reducing the heavy metal pollution, improving the XiangJiang river water quality,decreasing the soil and water loss, protecting an recovering the digging area and surroundingsarea ecological and landscape environment. The social benefits were consisted of relieving thegeological disaster to the land and village caused by the landslide, debris flow and surfacecollapse et al. and protecting the area production and living facilities effectively, having apromote effect on social unity and harmonious, improving the area investment environment,promoting the regional economic and social sustainable development, strengthening theawareness of environment protection and participation, and was in favour for the environmentprotection work benign development.
