In this dissertation, we focused on quaternary stearic acid triethanolamine tri-ester salt (3EQDMS) with poor softness. The possibility of recovery of it’s softness and the reason which causes the poor softness were analyzed theoretically. We modified the3EQDMS via ethoxylation. A series of polyoxyethylene tri-esterquat with different number of EO were obtained by ethoxylation and quaternization of triesteramine (3EQDMS-nEO, n=1-20). Then, the performance properties of softening, antistatic property, rewetting, impact on fabric whiteness, detergency and compatibility with anionic surfactant of the prepared polyoxyethylene tri-esterquats were investigated.Triesteramine was prepared by stearic acid and triethanolamine. The optimized reaction conditions for preparation of triesteramine is confirmed through orthogonal experiments:the reaction temperature was200℃, the molar ratio of stearic acid and triethanolamine was3.3:1.0, and the mass ratio of the catalyst is0.1%. Then, a series of polyoxyethylene triesteramine with different number of EO were prepared via changing the ratio of raw material under the presence of MCT-09. And IR spectra results showed that the polyoxyethylene triesteramine was successfully synthesized. At last, a series of polyoxyethylene tri-esterquats were synthesized by quaternization of polyoxyethylene with different number of EO. Their structures were characterized by’H-NMR spectra.The softening property, antistatic property, rewetting, impact on fabric whiteness, detergency of3EQDMS and polyoxyethylene tri-esterquats were investigated, and compared with quaternary stearic acid triethanolamine ester salt (EQDMS). The results indicated that the polyoxyethylene tri-esterquats were a new style softener with excellent properties. The results showed that the softness of the3EQDMS-6EO is close to that of EQDMS. The antistatic property and impact on fabric whiteness of polyoxyethylene tri-esterquats were better than that of3EQDMS, while their rewettability is better than that of EQDMS. Moreover, polyoxyethylene tri-esterquats have the certain detergency which enhanced with the increase of number of EO.The compatibility, surface activity, emulsifying capacity, wetting and softening property of3EQDMS-6EO and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (LAS) were investigated. The results showed that the mixed systems of EQDMS-6EO and LAS can exist stably in some scope of concentrations. Moreover, the surface activity and emulsifying capacity of mixed systems were improved compared to the individual3EQDMS-6EO or LAS. The wetting property of mixed systems was signifcantly better than that of3EQDMS-6EO, while decreased compared with LAS. In addition, the softening property of mixed systems was better than that of LAS.
