In this paper,we focused on the problems of high energy consumption,high investment,high production cost in the production process of esterquat,which are used as the fabric softener.First,we optimized the original production process of esterquat.Second,we further presented a new production process of esterquat using new material and new technology.We also tested and analyzed their performances in the application of fabric softener.Fatty acid as raw material,esterified with triethanolamine,we get triethanolamine fatty acid ester.Utilizing the 3*3 orthogonal test method,we screened and optimized the synthetic process conditions,the optimum reaction conditions of the esterification were: the reaction temperature is 180?,the amount of catalyst is 0.1%,reaction time is 3 hours.Using the foregoing triethanolamine fatty acid ester,dimethyl sulfate as raw material,through addition reaction,the ester base quaternary ammonium salt was synthesized.Utilizing the 3*3 orthogonal test method,we screened and optimized the synthetic process conditions,the optimum reaction conditions of the esterification were: the reaction temperature is 90?,the amount of catalyst is 0.1%,the reaction time is 2 hours.Fatty oil,as the raw material,by the transesterification with triethanolamine,triethanolamine fatty acid ester was synthesized.Utilizing the 3*3 orthogonal test method,we screened and optimized the synthetic process conditions,the optimum reaction conditions of the esterification were: the reaction temperature is 220?,catalyst dosage is 0.3%,reaction time is 4 hours.Finally,we analyzed the energy consumptions and costs of production of the two process routes of esterquat.Consulted with the similar products at home and abroad,we analyzed and compared the esterquats of of the two process routes with their advantages and disadvantages in every quality index.We also tested and compared the application performances of esterquat used as fabric softener.And we discovered that,although the fatty oil based esterquat is not perfect,it still needs further improment,but it performed well in the other fields,can completely replace the fatty acids based esterquat.and its production process is more energy-saving,more environmental protection and lower cost.
