ESR is one of the main means of special metallurgy. The steel after ESR is often been chosen firstly as variety of high-grade steel and special steel for its high purity, dense tissue quality and good mechanical properties, so it is widely used in aviation, aerospace, military, energy industry and other special requirements of the occasion. In order to obtain high-quality ingot remeltinged, the electrode feed speed should be precise controlled, so the research of the control of electrode feed rate is the hotspot in the field of electroslag metallurgy.By studying the development of domestic and foreign large electroslag furnace status and technical characteristics, in allusion to a large electroslag furnace which can produce the steel ingot of120tons in this article, one design scheme of the major mechanical components of electroslag furnace has been established. And the three-dimensional solid models of those components have been established by software Pro/E which makes the foundation of the mechanical system for strength analysis of the mechanical parts and kinematic analysis of the mechanical components.As special metallurgical slag furnace equipment, the working environment of electroslag furnace is special and it can be great influenced by temperature and electromagnetic field. In able to ensure the reliability and stability of the completed design of mechanical systems of electroslag furnace, some strength analysis of the mechanical parts and kinematic analysis of the mechanical components is necessary to test whether the system is reasonable or not and provide a reference for field operations. In this paper, the strength analysis is completed by software ANSYS and the simulation results show that the mechanical structures designed are in the safe range of material properties at work situation, so the design is feasible.Rotating column of large electroslag furnace is one of the main components of mechanical systems. The column is not only the installation base of electric arm and the lead rail of down or up movement, but also drives the electric arm and the electrode to rotate. Because of the electric arm and electrode are of great quality which is usually tens of tons, resulting in rotating inertia torque of the larger process, lead to instability of the column rotation speed and angle of orientation are not allowed and so on, and easy to produce impact Oscillation and rocking phenomenon. In this paper, kinematic analysis in the process of column rotating is done by software ADAMS, the simulation results show that the mechanical structures designed are of stability at work situation, so the design is reasonable.
