Beveling is key procedure before the welding of oil pipes with thick walls and animportant assurance of the quality of welding. Beveling machine is a kind of professionalequipments for the beveling of pipes. Nowadays, most of the equipments in China areportable, which are good for the restoration of pipes in the later stage but not for the massproduction. The others are most made by the manufactures themselves. Therefore,problems such as large amount of labor, instability of qualities and low automation areubiquitous, which make these kinds of beveling machine hardly meet the market demand.On the contrary, foreign equipments are expensive and usually have non-disclosure oftechnology. So research and develop a new type of beveling machine is of great marketvalue.The research object is the beveling machine that can produce automatically completely.Based on a comprehensive analysis of beveling processing and operating principle, theautomatic control system of beveling machine is designed and researched.As to hardware, a framework of the system is designed. According to the needs ofcontrol, PLC, touch screen and AC servo system are also selected and configured. Besides,the designing, making, installation and debugging of the control system is done. In thematter of software, a detailed procedure of the control system is planned. And with theapplication of modular programming, writing of the programs of PLC and touch screen iscompleted. a large amount of debugging is made, achieved the goal of automation.Aimed at problems found in beveling, further improvement of the beveling machine isdone. A probe with optoelectronic switch is designed and installed and the interruptfunction of PLC is used, which both shorten the idle stroke in the feeding and the time ofpipe processing. Furthermore, slow feeding is divided into two stages: continuous feedingand intermittent feeding, which successfully solves the problem that the life of knife toolsis shortened because the ends of the pipe work blanks are not smooth or because the tool istwined by iron scale.Now this equipment has been debugged successfully in the cooperative enterprise andthe expected expect is reached. It has won a favorable comment from the whole enterprise.Many enterprises have expressed their expectation of cooperation.
