This design is the RTU part of the whole fossil oil pumping unit remote monitoring system designed by power system and electric drive research institute of Northeastern University for Liaohe oil field, in the background that the digital oilfield construction became prevalent.This paper analyzed the development status and existing problems of domestic and foreign oil field monitoring system first. Take full account of these existing problems and the actual needs of users, we designed a wireless monitoring terminal of beam pumping unit. This RTU can not only draw the indicator diagram of beam pumping unit, but also can measure the electrical parameters of the driving motor. High performance digital signal processor was used as the MCU of the RTU. Many newly invented technology has been used during design, like wireless load and displacement integration sensor, zigbee wireless data transmission module. Combined with appropriate data processing algorithm, this RTU can realize the real-time measurement of multiple parameters of the pumping unit, and the results of the measurement can be displayed on HMI as well as sent to monitoring center via telecommunications, it can also upload alarm information initiatively when there is a failure alarm. All these features help the oilfield workers to control the oil production more efficiently and timely, conducive to a scientific oilfield management consequently.The structure of the RTU can be divided into three main parts:indicator diagram acquisition module, electrical parameters measuring module and peripheral serial port equipment module. The design of each module’s hardware and software were introduced in the paper, as well as device selection. In the section of indicator diagram acquisition module, a kind of wireless load and displacement integration sensor was introduced, which made the acquisition of load and displacement information of indicator diagram wirelessly become true, the software design process of the part that drawing indicator diagram was described in detail. In the section of electrical parameters measuring module, a3-phase electrical energy measurement IC--ADE7758was introduced, and the peripheral hardware circuit was designed, the communication between DSP TMS320F2812and ADE7758through SPI interface was described in detail. In the section of peripheral serial port equipment module, the human machine interface was designed, a kind of zigbee wireless communication module was selected and introduced. As the number of DSP’s UART port is not enough to support more than two serial peripheral equipments, it is necessary to extend the UART interface, thus the method of UART extension was introduced, it is also significance for the future expansion.This design can be widely used to monitor sucker rod pumping equipments, release the worker’s manual labor strength, achieve the goal of well automated management, and assure the accuracy of the measurement. The research will help the management style of oilfield monitoring upgrade from extensive management style to delicacy management style, and present significant value both in theory and practice.
