Elongation control level of Skin-pass-mill directly affects the quality of galvanized sheet. Based on the elongation control system of skin-pass-mill in one CGL, this paper takes a depth analysis of the composition and working principle of the elongation control system in which the Model Predictive Control has been used. Through comparing with the normal PID control, we have found that the performance of the system has been greatly enhanced by using MPC.The main work is as follows:(1) This paper has provided the introduction and overview of the overall process galvanizing line, Combed the history and development of the skin-pass-mill and focused on the analysis of automatic control system of the skin-pass-mill to emphasize that it plays an important role in the CGL. If we want to get high-quality galvanized sheets, the control level must be promoted.(2) Make a depth analysis of the elongation control system an its theory of the skin-pass-mill. By analyzing three methods of the elongation control, it chose the most efficient method which is the rolling force control for the next study. This paper also summarized the reason which caused the fluctuations of elongation control and to improve the control system’s comprehensive performance.(3) This paper has described the basic idea of predictive control in detail and through established the model of every part to get the control system block. Then get the linear system transfer function, and the next to determine the viability of the elongation control and simulation programs.(4) The MATLAB’SIMULINK is used to do the simulation for the normal PID control of elongation control system and the response has a good result. Also does MATLAB’MPC. Compared with the contents as the response, the affect with the model mismatched and the anti-jamming capability. The results which are strong practical are about the elongation closed-loop control of skin-pass-mill. Currently, some research has been successfully applied to a galvanizing production line.
