Cardanol is a unique natural source for unsaturated long-chain phenols.Obtained as a byproduct of the cashew industry, this renewable material has wide applications in the form of industrial production.The main applications of cardanol are used as chemical raw materials replacing oil. How to use cardanol to synthesize different types of compounds is a hot research subject at home and abroad. In this paper, we used cardanol as raw material to synthesis cationic and nonionicsurfactants and investigate the role of their sterilization in the circulating water.First of all, We used low cost, resourceful cardanol (a mixture with unsaturated double bonds) as a raw material and raney nickel as catalyst, through catalytic hydrogenation, reduced pressure distillation, recrystallization, to synthesis3-pentadecylphenol. Then the effects of the amount of catalyst, different kinds of hydrogenation solvents as well as different hydrogenation device on hydrogenation reaction were studied systematically by the method of one-factor experimental design.Second, a new type quaternary ammonium salt3-pentadecylphenol ether trimethy lammonium chloride(YGF-1) was synthesized from hydrogenated cardanol, trimethylamine, dichloroethane and sodium hydroxide through two synthetic route, including Williamson etherification and quaternization reaction. Optimum synthesis conditions of3-pentadecylphenol ether trimethy lammonium chloride were obtained by orthogonal experiment.Third,3-pentadecylphenol polyoxyethylene(YGF-2) was synthesized from hydrogenated cardanol and ethylene oxide, with boron trifluoride ether as catalyst. The main influence factors on viscosity, color, appearance, hydroxyl value, and saponification value of the products were studied systematically.Fourth, structure of cardanol surfactant synthesized were characterized by adopting IR,1H NMR and melting point detector, as the result showed us,the structure of cardanol surfactant meet experimental design requirements. Fifth, we obtained the application performance of cardanol surfactants through testing their surface properties, bactericidal properties, emulsifying properties and cloud point. As the results showed us, YGF-1has better bactericidal properties compared with industrial fungicide bromogeramine.Finally, by studyingl circulating water of NORTHEAST PHARMACEUTICAL GROUP CO, LTD, we obtained pharmaceutical formulations or treatment of cooling water through adopting complex technology and using YGF-1as the major pharmaceutical killing bacteria and algae. After passing through laboratory small scale, on-site application test was conducted. Two months of operation showed that the number of heterotrophic bacteria, turbidity, iron content, pH value of the major water quality of the circulating water has reached its best state.As the experiment showed us, cardanol surfactant that we developed has many advantages in terms of sterilization. For example, synthetic process is simple; low-cost, and it has good effect of sterilization and slime stripped Therefore, YGF-1that we developed has good prospects for industrial promotion.
