The copper and cobalt complexes as catalysts have been widely used inpolymerization and asymmetry organic synthesis.Based on full literature research, the latest progress of copper and cobaltcomplexes and their catalytic application is reviewed. The catalytic applicationto the Henry reaction and cyanosilylation reaction are systematicallysummarized. The relatively simple methods of synthesis of the complexes are established.Reaction of N,N′-disalicylidene-1,3-diaminopropane and2-cyanopyridine withCu(OAc)2·H2O in ethanol and THF resulted in the production ofcomplexesⅠand Ⅳ. In addition, we also obtained the complexes Ⅱ and Ⅲbyreacting L(+)-Leucinol with CuCl2·2H2O and Co(OAc)2·4H2O, respectively. They were all characterized by IR, Elemental analysis and X-ray diffractionanalysis. One ammonium salt Ⅴ was synthesized from the reaction of2-cyanopyridinewith Zn(OAc)2·2H2O. The structure of it was also determined by IR, Elementalanalysis, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The complexes (Ⅰ、Ⅱ and Ⅳ) were then used to catalyze the Henry reaction, among them, the complex Ⅱachieved the best catalytic results, the conversionefficiency was up to99%. In addition, the complexes and ammonium salt (Ⅰ~Ⅴ) were also used to catalyze the cyanosilylation reaction and achieved goodcatalytic results.
