This paper discusses the necessity and importance of electric power marketing. Firstly,based on the characteristics of electric power as a product, the formation process of electricpower marketing and its development have been introduced. And the difference of themarketing theory between electric power and other general products has been analyzed. Thetheory on electric power marketing has been mainly discussed, including specific pre-sale andafter sale services, marketing methods combination and specific steps to apply these strategyand marketing methods to the power marketing. Secondly, in view of existing situation ofpower marketing of Gaoming power system, in consideration of the features of powercustomers in Gaoming, some theoretical methods have been applied to the power market inGaoming. The SWOT method to analyze the advantages and disadvantages has beenintroduced and some problems facing power marketing in Gaoming have been presented. Theadvantages are marketing network expansion, robust local power grid, professional marketingteam, adequate financial support and the brand effect of South China Electric Power Grid, etc.However, there are some problems on safety management, power market exploitation,system reform on power management used for agriculture production, and marketing strategy.So according to the actual situation a whole solution has been given, includingundifferentiated marketing, main target market selection of big-industry customers,non-average industry customers and urban and rural households customers. Through thesemethods the power market in Gaoming has been further divided. From the six aspects ofQuality Assurance, Differentiation Strategy, Brand Effect and Quality Services, marketingmethods combination has been discussed to accomplish the targeted goals of power marketmade by Gaoming Power Company. Finally, by analyzing a great number of data andstatistics the trend for development in power demand of Gaoming district, Foshan city, hasbeen scientifically predicted.
