Traditional Sports Community Participation Of Tourism Development

The connotation of sustainable tourism which spakrpluegd by《The Agendum of Tourism in 21 Century》, Promulgated by the WTO and WTTC, indicates clearly that community Participation is a very important and indispensable content of tourism development.Community participation is a strategy to protect nature and develop tourism. Which means taking the community as the subject in the process of decision-making and execution for all the important issues as tourism planning and developing in order to protect the interest of the community.Based on information gathering, data compilation, site visits and interviews, this paper analyzes the residences from Gui-yi Community, Dragon Boat Community and Jing-jie Community around the dragon boat racing center, regarding their attitudes to the International Dragon Boat Race Festival, their awareness of participation in tourism development of traditional sports events, tourism planning participation, participation in tourism operations and earnings, and the understanding of traditional sports events tourism etc. It is found that community residents were highly interested in participating in the International Dragon Boat Races. Since the lack of local residents participating in tourism development of Dragon Boat Race and vague relationships of various interests between developers, managers and communities, the communities, however, in tourism planning, tourism management, tourism profits and other aspects still remain in primary stage, specifically the single method of participation, the shallow level and the narrow content of participation.The purpose of this paper is based on the basic theory of community participation in tourism point of view, to make separate researches of sustainable development between the managers and residences from the communities around the dragon boat racing center and to summarize the strength of achievements in the existing participation model. Firstly, there is an overview of the existing tourism resources of Miluo, the international dragon boat race in general and the basic situation of the surrounding community. Along with that, it analyzes issues of community participation in the International Dragon Boat Race on the topic of various interests. Secondly, to analyze the current situation of three communities around the dragon boat racing center participating in tourism development of the International Dragon Boat Race. It analyzes the current situation of community involvement and raises the urgency of community participation. Moreover, through analysis of community participation in dragon boat race, it maps out the influences of the International Dragon Boat Race on the Miluo economy, traditional culture, image of the government and image of the city etc. Last but not lesat, builds a community participation model and the institutional framework for community participation, and introduces the community participation model to the development of traditional sports events tourism of Miluo, therefore, it provides a basis and set an good example for the development and management of traditional sports events tourism of Miluo so that tourism and local communities achieve social, economic and environmental benefits.
