The research on the foreign direct investment is an important part of international trade. More and more scholar at home and abroad pay attention to the role of foreign direct investment on host country. As the development of our country, foreign direct investment has a significant impact in all aspects of the economy.In our country, the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta region do the best in abstracting foreign direct investments, while the Yellow River Delta region develop lately and face many problems in abstracting foreign direct investments.As the last delta to be developed, the Yellow River Delta has its own unique economics and society conditions. At the end of 2009, the state council officially approves the development plan of the Yellow River Delta, this plan marked the development in this region has gone up to the level of the national strategy. To catch up with this chance, this region should use its advantages, improve the investment environment to attract foreign direct investment, and then boost the economic development.This paper is based on the basics principles in international investment, international trade, and regional economics and so on. Through learning from the researches at home and abroad, this paper takes a research on the foreign direct investment of the Yellow River Delta region and then makes a comprehensive and systematic description. Such as the investment style, the place of the investment from, the industry of the investment to, and the investment scale. Then the paper finds out the six characteristics of this region and analyzes the impact of the foreign direct investment on this region. Such as the employment effects, the trade effects, the capital effects, technology spillovers effects and so on. Then I analyze the opportunities and the challenges of this region facing, thinking of the conditions at home and abroad. The opportunities mainly include the unique natural conditions and the financial supports from national policies; the challenges mainly are the problems the foreign direct investment facing. At last, I find out the bottlenecks which limit the development of foreign direct investment in this region, and bring up some methods to solve the problem in this region, hoping they can make a favor in the development of investments. Science the dates of the Yellow River Delta region is limited, all the dates in the paper is based the dates of Dong ying which is the major city of this region.This article consists of five parts; the first part is about the introduction of the theory of FDI. The theories at abroad mainly support that the flow of the FDI play a positive role on domestic economic, while the theory at home mainly study the relations between the regional economies and the FDI. The second part study the situation of the FDI in the Yellow River Delta from three aspects, the first is the development of the FDI since 1988. The second introduces the conditions of the FDI in this area, such as the sources of the investment. The third is the new characters of the FDI in this area, for example capital increase, merger and acquisition, and listed overseas have become the main mode of the FDI. The third part signalizes the effects brought by the FDI, including the employment effects, the capital effects, the trade effects, technological spillovers and so on. And from the analysis, we can find that the FDI boost the economic development in this region. The fourth part signalizes the conditions in the Yellow River Delta specifically, Including the challenges and opportunities in attracting the FDI, the opportunities is mainly about the economic and social conditions in this region, and the challenges is the problem existing in this region at attracting the FDI, for example, foreign direct investment is less than the average level of FDI in Shandong province. In the five parts, I give some advice in attracting FDI in this region on basis of learning from the development of the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta region.
