Polycrystalline silicon is the foundation of the PV industry. Dependant upon the development opportunity of global new energy, polycrystalline silicon has become an emerging industry in China. This industry has been through four stages of starting, process, boom and surplus periods over the past several years; especially overcapacity as well as plunging prices brings great business risks to those enterprises. This thesis is based on the current situation of domestic excess capacity and introduces the current development, market demands, technology and tendency of this industry worldwide. Moreover, this thesis makes an analysis of the external strategic environment and internal conditions, opportunities and threats, advantages and disadvantages polycrystalline silicon producers like Y Company face by way of STEPG, Porter's Five Forces Model and SWOT Matrix, putting forward the development positioning and goal. According to the sustainable development theory, aimed at the lack of core technology, high energy consumption, high pollution, blind investment and disorderly status quo, this thesis proposes that this industry must take tackling overcapacity as prerequisite, core technology breakthrough key, reducing environmental pollution basis, cultivating and enlivening the domestic markets foundation, reducing energy consumption and cost inner demands, and policy support is guarantee for the realization of sustainable development. When Y Company is trying its best to solve common problems inside the industry, it has to speed up absorbing the technology, realizing clean production, improving the industry chain, reducing energy and materials consumption to achieve cost leadership and product differentiation. This thesis presents some significant exploration on the survival and sustainable development of polycrystalline silicon enterprises in China, offering references and experiences for handling overcapacity and promoting the healthy, orderly and sustainable development.
