Study On The Development Of Sichuan Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry From The Angle Of Industrial Chain

PURPOSE:Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an industry where our country owns proprietary intellectual property rights and has the biggest comparative advantage. It is also an important part of national economic development. With the worldwide trend of "Back to Nature", the growing of "TCM popularity", the united legalization of Chinese herbal medicine by European Community as well as the acceptance of conducting clinical trials on compounded traditional Chinese preparations by FDA, the worldwide studies on TCM is tending towards a high level gradually. TCM industry is faced with a transformation from traditional TCM to modernized TCM, from traditional industry to modern industry. Aiming at the problems in the development of various points in TCM industry, how to culture and develop an industrial chain of modernized TCM based on the management mode of industrial chain is a subject to be investigated urgently. Therefore, in this paper we analyzed some marked problems in the current TCM industrial chain in an exploratory manner; some new ideas and strategies were put forward in order to provide reference to the industrial development of modernized TCM in other areas.METHODS:In this paper modernized TCM industry in Sichuan was set as the study object, and industrial chain theory was set as the study background. Within the framework of current medicine policy and regulations, the combination of evidence-based analysis and the quantitative analysis associated with the historical analyzing method were performed to find out the current situation and problems in the development of various points in TCM industry. Also the SWOT analysis was conducted. Based on the actual situation of the development of modernized TCM in Sichuan, with reference to the advanced experiences in the management of industrial chain as well as the development of modernized TCM (traditional medicine) in our country and abroad, the strategic thinking and suggestions were presented for culturing and developing the industrial chain of modernized TCM in Sichuan.CONCLUSIONS:The following conclusions can be drawn from the studies on the above contents:To optimize the industrial chain of modernized TCM, external integration, inner integration as well as the optimal arrangement shall be conducted on each point of the industrial chain of modernized TCM in Sichuan, to facilitate the improvement of the quality and effectiveness of TCM industry.By means of our study, the development of modernized TCM industrial chain of Sichuan can be truly realized and the improvement of the quality and effectiveness of TCM industry can be achieved. Emphases shall be laid on the development of TCM agriculture characterized with industrialized management and Good Agriculture Practice (GAP), on the processed traditional medicine characterized with a united processing standard and a united specification as well as the patent traditional medicine characterized with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), on the TCM trade characterized with general agency, exclusive distribution and chain operation based on multi-channels selling network and supporting service system suitable for the market economics under the guidance of Good Supply Practice (GSP), on the TCM intellectual industry with the TCM technical innovation information as main contents, and on the modern service industry where the development of the whole modernized TCM industry plays a role in service and supporting.
