Qingdao is a beautiful seaside city and its tourism, which is a pillar industry, accounts for 10% of the total GDP. Since entering the 21st century, Qingdao has become the host city for the Sailing Regatta, and successfully held the 2008 Olympic Sailing Regatta. The hotel industry has got rapidly development, both in quantity and quality. The Olympic Games have brought opportunities as well as challenges to Qingdao's tourism industry. Hotel industry is an important component of tourism, so its prospects are of great significance for the development of tourism and urban economy in Qingdao.Driven by the Olympic effect, the star hotels in Qingdao experienced a significant increase in quantity and profits during the years from 2001 to 2007. However, due to some objective factors, the performance of the star hotels decreased considerably in the 2008 Olympic year. In the long run, the numbers of hotels will grow and the competition will become more intense with the rapid economic development. In addition, Qingdao's hotel industry, as a whole, needs to be improved in management and service level. The group-oriented development is relatively slow. The whole industry needs to be further standardized and well-planned. Under the new strategy of "Protection along the Bay, Development around the Bay", the hotel industry will develop faster in the new economic zone. This thesis consists of four parts. The first part reviews the development of international and domestic Olympic tourism and hotel industry. The second part carries out comprehensive analysis on the current development, the existing problems and the future development of Qingdao's hotel industry. The third part analysis and studies the influence of the Olympic Sailing Regatta on Qingdao's hotel industry. The last part analysis the impact of the post-Olympics on Qingdao's hotel industry, and the developing strategies of Qingdao's hotel industry in the post-Olympic era. This thesis studies and summarizes the development laws with thorough and comprehensive analysis on the historical and current development of Qingdao's hotel industry.
