As we step into the 21st century, the express delivery industry has developed drastically at the rate of 30% annually in China as a new-type industry of modern industries. Faced with such a fast growing market with great potentials, the domestic and international express delivery industries of different sizes expect to gain a foothold and make considerable profits. In recent years, the express delivery business of China post has been seriously diverted, the average growth rate is only 2%, whereas the growth rate of DHL, the international express delivery giant, reaches 30%. EMS is the core business of China Post. It is the fastest way of transmitting information and entities in the postal industry, with its revenue accounting for about 12% of the revenue from postal business. As the core business of key support and planning to going public, EMS faces both opportunities and challenges. It plays an important role for Yunnan Post and the express delivery businesses to understand the conditions and strategies of their competitors so that they can find a position in the market and maintain sustainable development. This thesis is divided into the following four parts.ChapterⅠAn introduction. Looking back on the characteristics of China's postal system, the development of the express delivery industries in Yunnan and other provinces of China and the problems in Yunnan's EMS, the author puts forward the purposes, significance, content and methods of the research.ChapterⅡAn analysis of the competitiveness, theories of competing strategies and EMS'Phenomena. By analyzing the development momentum of competing strategies both at home and abroad, the author has laid a theoretical foundation for the study of competing strategies of Yunnan's EMS.ChapterⅢAn analysis of competing environments of Yunnan's EMS. By employing the method of SWOT, the thesis makes a comparative analysis and detailed explanation of the interior and outside environments of Yunnan's EMS, the advantages and disadvantages, the development and competing strategies of the main competitors at home and abroad and then puts forward the running strategies aiming at the growth of Yunnan post.ChapterⅣThe study on the competing strategies of Yunnan's EMS. Combining the analysis of both interior and outside environments, the author makes it clear to know the purposes, the orientation and choices of competing strategies of Yunnan's EMS. The author points out that the strategy of giving priority to differences, cost and focusing on the objectives should be employed. In addition, the short, medium and long-term competing strategies and the measures to ensure their implementation have been respectively put forward.Considering that the problems of competing strategies are special, the author combines theories and examples, historical and realistic analysis and comparative analysis of the international and domestic practices. The author has made the thesis creative in theory and valuable in guiding the practice.
