Industries play a crucial role in the development of regional economy. The real world practice shows that the adjustment and upgrades of industrial structure are not only the source of economic growth, but also the very important part of the overall economic competitiveness. The study of industrial structure has very important reference value for improving the world economic balancing development, and the quality and efficiency of economic growth in different countries.The Fortune 500, to great extent, represents the development trend of global economy, and the adjustment paces of industrial structure. The thesis, starting from Fortune 500, building an analysis framework of the relationship between modern economic development and the industrial structure, using the section data and time series data of Fortune 500 between 1995 and 2009, referring to the study methods of regional industrial structure, analyzes and affirms the concrete connections between economic development and industrial structure.The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter Introduction aims to introduce the research background, research value and ideas of this topic, meanwhile it also briefly illustrates related research overview of industrial structure. The second chapter analyzes the overall development of Fortune 500 and the adjustment trend of industrial structure by profitability and growth indicators. The third chapter analyzes the economic statuses from three perspectives. The first section, with a view of world economy, based on the Grey Relational Analysis theory, analyzes the key industries in global economic development. The second section, with a view of national economy of countries, reveals that industrial structure is an important factor of national economy development, through the linear relations between industry compositions of Fortune 500 in different countries, and their integral economic competitiveness. The third section, based on Shift-Share Model, concretely analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of developed and developing countries. Chapter Four analyzes the dynamic economic effectiveness of internal improvement of industries. Together with the conclusion of the third chapter, it provides references for difference countries for their rationalization adjustment. Chapter five provides target-oriented solutions and suggestions based on the study conclusions.
