In the 1970s, the study and application of revenue management originated from aircraft industry has stretched its branches into the field of hospitality industry, Railway transport of passengers, car rental industry, broadcasting, etc, and received remarkable benefits. The idea of revenue management had already entered Railway transport of passengers, and Railway cargo transport is beginning to use the successful experiences revenue management has achieved on others to go by, hoping to make contribution to the benefit of Railway cargo transport. Cargo transport revenue management is a managing system that applies the revenue management theories into freight sales, it can be defined as to sell the right good (cargo space and cargo service) to a suitable customer with a reasonable price at an appropriate time, in order to optimize the railway cargo capacity and maximize the benefit.Based on the previous research, this thesis explores the application of the revenue management in railway cargo transport. First, it introduces the current situation of our country's railway cargo transport development, discusses the necessarily of applying the revenue management on the railway cargo transport, describes the concepts, models and elements related to revenue management, and then defines the content and system on the study of the revenue management in railway cargo transport. Second, it studies the theory of grey system, multi linear regression and BP neural network, then uses the national season rail freight of 2002-2010 as the sample date to predict the cargo volume, and by combining the three methods, applies the BP neural network to study the accuracy of different methods, and then conducts a short-term forecast on cargo volume. Then based on the circumstance of agreement sale and free sale establishes models of capacity allocation and pricing. It sets relevant parameters, tests and verifies the basic feasibility, and takes analysis of the relevant parameters by numerical simulation. Finally, the thesis studies the overbooking model under fixed capacity and discrete capacity, solves the overbooking problem by combining with the real cases, and draws the conclusion of the appropriate range of cargo transport under circumstances of fixed and discrete capacity. The purpose of the thesis is to make a contribution to the theory of the revenue management in railway cargo transport, in the hope of making even the slightest theoretical compliment to the revenue management of railway cargo transport.
