A Study On Revenue Management Theories And Methods Of Railway Cargo Transport

The application of revenue management originated from aircraft industry and has stretched its branches into many fields. Based on the analysis, this article concludes that Railway cargo transport is in line with the basic condition of application of revenue management, so the introduction of revenue management into Railway cargo transport can improve the revenue, and this article focuses on problems of demand prediction, dynamic pricing and overbooking.Firstly, it discusses the necessarily of applying the revenue management on the railway cargo transport, and studys the feasibility of the introduction of revenue management. The study shows that:Railway cargo transport has a high similarity with air transportation. So it is feasible to implement revenue management in China’s railway cargo transport market.In terms of demand prediction, it studies the theory of ARMA prediction, multi linear regression and grey system, and uses the method of optimal weighted combination to forecast the short-term needs.The combination forcasting overcomes the defects of single forecast and improves forecast accuracy.In the third place, in terms of pricing, based on the circumstance of agreement sale and free sale establishes two models of pricing. During the agreement sale, it introduces the concept of rail capacity options and prices it to achieve"dynamic pricing",in order to maximize the revenue;During the free sale, it introduces the timeliness factor as well as prices it at different times, to achieve the maximization of income.Then it sets relevant parameters, tests and verifies the basic feasibility, and takes analysis of the relevant parameters by numerical simulation.Finally, in terms of overbooking, it considers the factor of owner’s satisfaction, then establishes the overbooking model and last gives an example application.The purpose of the thesis is to make a contribution to the theory of the revenue management in railway cargo transport, in the hope of making even the slightest theoretical compliment to the revenue management of railway cargo transport.
