Energy is material basis for the human survival and development, and that is also the material security and basic motivation for the social and economic sustainable development. With the development of global social and economic and rapid population growth, resource consumption is rising. Facing the sharp drop of fossil fuel reserves including coal, oil and natural gas, and the global environmental problems intensify such as the amount of air pollution, climate change etc, it developing and using of clean and renewable energy has become the direction of construction and development of energy and which attach great importance by the international scientific community and government decision-making departments. Biomass renewable energy as one of the most important renewable energy makes a greater role in the global energy restructuring. The development of biomass energy in China has been included in "Twelfth Five Year" Plan being. Agriculture and forestry biomass resources as a major source of biomass energy are the focus of developing and using on the next step. Therefore it is necessary to control the quantity and distribution on the region's agriculture and forestry biomass resources, which will provide basic data support the for utilization decision on biomass resources.Traditional research on biomass resources of agriculture and forestry is or based on the methods of statistical data, or analyze the spatial distribution as a tool of GIS, or analyze the biomass as remote sensing data model. That is less on the combination of several methods. That integrated the advantage on timeliness of remote sensing data, spatial analysis function on GIS and the traditional grass valley ratio, taking firewood coefficient method, is not only conducive to estimate the quantity of agriculture and forestry biomass, and but also can effectively use GIS spatial analysis function to control their time and space distribution.Making use of remote sensing data and technology of geographic information systems, through the interpretation of TM remote sensing images, this paper classify and extract the area on the agriculture and forestry biomass resources in Chongqing, and calculation of the amount of agriculture biomass resources through the method of grass valley, calculation of the amount of forestry biomass resources through the method of wood coefficient, and then establish a database of biomass resources in the platform of GIS and analyze the temporal and spatial distribution. The results show that:(1) In the remote sensing data processing, through a comparative study, the seam-line removal method that based on the iterative matching was shown to be effective to eliminate seam-lines, increase the image standard deviation, enhance image contrast and improve image quality, the images that processed is conducive to a better interpretation of the image.(2) In research, the regions of interest were collected by comprehensive use analysis of field survey points, ISO-DATA clustering analysis, NDVI, high-resolution image, land use maps, topographic maps and other data. So the result of classification had good quality and accuracy. Some area with thick clouds had been misclassification were corrected through artificial amendment, the classification accuracy was improved effectively.(3) The total agricultural and forestry biomass resources are rich in Chongqing. There are total 9,497,684 tons of agricultural and forestry biomass, of which 8,370,826 tons of Agricultural biomass resources,1,126,858 tons of forestry biomass resources. Agricultural resources are the main part of agricultural and forestry resource. Agricultural biomass resources are account for 88% of the total. Forestry biomass resources are account for 12% of the total.(4) Agricultural and forestry biomass resources of Chongqing were distributed uneven in the space. Agricultural biomass resources were mainly distributed in "One sphere" of Chongqing. Forestry biomass resources were mainly distributed in the "two wings" of Chongqing. agriculture and forestry biomass resources are mainly concentrated in region of Tongnan, Rongchang and Dazu County, as well as Changshou, Dianjiang, Liangping, Zhong County in which the four county region.(5) Agriculture and forestry biomass resources in Chongqing are distributed in the four quarters of the year, agricultural biomass resources are distributed in the second, third and fourth quarters, forestry biomass resources are distributed in the first quarter of the year that ensure the continuity use of agriculture and forestry biomass resources.
