Comprehensive Conservation And Development Strategy Of Dongzhaigang Mangrove In Meilan District

Dongzhaigang Mangrove Reserve is located in Meilan District, Haikou City. It is one of the mangroves with the largest area and most concentrated distribution, richest diversity, best protection. Moreover, it has important conservation value, research value and tourism value. It is urgent and necessary to effectively protect and rational utilize mangrove resources. Based on the investigation of the status of mangrove, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Dongzhaigang Reserve on mangrove protection and utilization are analyzed in this paper. Then, some conservation strategies and utilization strategies on mangrove resources are proposed respectively. The major results are as follows:1. Mangrove resources in Dongzhaigang are extremely rich, and with characteristics of rarity, naturalness, diversity and vulnerability.2.Mangroves have composite effects, which on various aspects including disaster prevention and mitigation, development of ecological tourism, conservation of biological diversity, promotion of the offshore fisheries, improvement of the coastal environment and stimulation of community development.3.Based on the SWOT analysis, the long-term goals and short-term performance objectives on mangrove protection are proposed respectively, and with the specific action plan. Short-term performance objectives include:Protection and enhancement of mangrove ecosystems, protection and enhancement of biological diversity, publicity and education on mangrove protection, protection and enhancement of the tidal flat ecosystem, water protection and management.4.Based on the SWOT analysis, the protective development model on mangrove utilization is proposed. To the premise of strictly protected the core area , the Dongzhaigang Reserve could moderately develop eco-tourism in the buffer zones and experimental zones, and high-end residential, leisure industries in the experimental zones.
