A Study On Partnership Management Of Technical Standard Alliance

In today's international competition, technical standards have become importantmeans of enterprises competition . D ue to limitations of individual enterprises ontechnical , capital and so on, it is difficult to establish a unified industry technicalstandards. Since the 19 90 s , some leading companies form ing technical standardsalliance on base of core in dustry t echnolog ies, to establish industry standardstogether . Chinese enterprises have realize d the important of technical standardsalliance. In the process of implementing technical standards alliance , alliancepartners apt to act non-c ollaborative or opportunistic behavior on behalf ofself-interest, which r esult in alliance conflicts . So partner relationship managementplay a d ecisive role to the successful operation of techn ical standards alliance.According to thoroughly analyzes of the relations among partner selection,partnership and alliance performance of technical standards alliance, as well as theroles of each dimensions , this article explores the management of technical standardsalliance. In the study, partner selection dimensions including reputation,compatibility and technical standardiz e abilities; partnership dimensions includingtrust, commitment, dependence ; a lliance performance been assessed from the pointsof sales, operating costs, technology learning and technology development risk s.Q uestionnaire survey is the empirical method of the study, which is the mainstreamstudy method. Firstly, we building a theory model and the relationship of variablesb ased on the E xploratory F actor A nalysis and C onfirmatory F actor A nalysis of thesurvey results, then we v erif ying each theoretical assumptions according toS tructural E quation M odeling . Empirical results are:(1)P artner selection ha s asignificant impact on partnership and alliance performance. Reputation,compatibility and technical standardiz e abilities are effective dimension s of partnerselection, in which compatibility ha s a significant impact on partnership andalliances performance; reputation and technology standardiz e abil ities have impacton alliance performance but partnership . (2) Partnership has a significant impact onperformance of t echnology s tandards alliance. Trust, commitment and dependencewhich are e ffect ive dimensions of partnership all have impact on allianceperformance. (3) P artner selection and partnership both ha ve significant influence on technical standards alliance's performance, and the role of partner selection moreimportant which is determined by the initial stages of China 's technical standardalliance . During each development stages p artner selection and partnership havedifferent impact on p erformance of technical standards alliance . In the process ofmodel modified, we add one path from JX (alliance performance) to YL(dependence), which indicates performance of technical standards alliance havecertain effect to the partners'interdependence , and good alliance performance couldhelp m aintain high dependence between partners . In the view of research outcomes,we put forward several proposal s about partnership management of technicalstandards alliance in China, such as c hoos ing alliance partners with a goodreputation; possessing compatibility between the alliance partners; enhancingcommunication and trust of the partners ; establish ing a dynamic performanceevaluat e system and so on .
