Building Of Advanced Bicycle City In The World

Urbanization is the trend of our society. People are enjoying the economic prosperity and the social advancement brought by urbanization while city has to face many threats called "city sickness", such as environmental pollution, lack of energy, traffic jam, population explosion and social unfairness, etc, so sustainable development of the city has became the common aim that is pursued by the people all over the world. Sustainable development of transportation is a main part of sustainable development. Car is an important symbol of urbanization. The purchase of private cars gradually became the main way of investment in transportation. Private cars can meet the townsman's demand of more frequent egressions, larger extents of egression, and higher egression quality with the result of benefit, convenience and comfort to the townsman. However, along with the increasing of cars, the traffic mode mainly made of car transportation has brought such huge impacts on natural environment and social environment of a city that we have to pay attention to them: it is urgent to build sustainable transportation system. The urban transportation should consist of two parts: private transportation and public transportation. Private transportation means going out by walking or by private vehicles, while public transportation means egression by taking public transportation system in urban (or rural) areas. Many developed countries that experienced the car time are looking for a new traffic mode of sustainable development to lessen the city's traffic pressure. The view of developing the public transportation and the bicycle traffic being used as assistant transportation has come to an agreement. At first, from the point of view of sustainable transportation the article analyses the traffic mode which is mainly made of the car traffic has brought a lot of disadvantageous impacts. Secondly, the advanced experience of the developed countries is used as reference to put forward a view that bicycle has the best superiority as the tool of private transportation means. At last, the author puts forward an evaluation system about the bicycle city on study on foreign literature and review on the spot .The evaluation system can evaluate the development status of bicycle transportation from of a block, a zone to the whole city in order to find its advantages and deficiencies, and supple advise for future urban bicycle transportation development.
