An Research On The Foreign Trade Competitiveness Of Gansu

With great development of economic globalization, the international competition has become more and more cruel. And China as a new member of WTO also made Gansu province being involved with the international economic system. What's the status of Gansu in international trade and division of labor, and how much profit can it gains will mainly depend on its foreign trade competitiveness. On the basis of the theory of regional foreign trade competitiveness, this paper analyzes the foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province by means of some methods and also explains the reason why the foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province is low from an angle of the foundation of foreign trade competitiveness, and then this paper gives some important suggestions.The first chapter is about the theory of regional foreign trade competitiveness. First of all, it analyses the evolutional routes of regional foreign trade competitiveness by reviewing the theory of international trade competitiveness. And then it indicates the relationship between comparative advantages and competitive advantages which means that the former is a basic of the latter and the latter is a great development of the former. Secondly, this chapter expounds the implications,factors and evaluate indexes of the regional foreign trade competitiveness.The second chapter is about the assay of foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province. From the scale,structure and competition of export commodities, this chapter sets up an analysis framework for evaluating the foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province. And then this chapter gets a conclusion which means that the foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province is relatively low by means of detail analysis on some important indexes such as the structure transferred of export commodities,dominant comparative advantage index and competition index etc.The third chapter analyzes the reason from an angle of the foundation of foreign trade competitiveness and explains why the foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province is low. Firstly, it points out that the foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province comes from its comparative advantages. Secondly, it finds some limitations by analysis of the factors,productions and industries of foreign trade comparative advantage of Gansu province, and demonstrates that it is due to the foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province based in the comparative competition which still remains in primary production factors.The fourth chapter is about suggestions in promoting the foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province. From the above research, this paper indicates that the main approach to promote the foreign trade competitiveness of Gansu province is to converse comparative advantages to competitive advantages, and then gives some proper suggestions such as developing the senior production factors,upgrading the industrial structures and creating a better institution environment etc.
